What the app uses

With your permission, the native app uses precise location, background location, movement speed, and notification access to recognize a likely driving-to-parking transition. Parking protection follows the participating phone and can work in any vehicle. Phone number, optional saved-vehicle license plates, and SMS or voice preferences are collected only when you choose those features.

What leaves the phone

When a likely parking session occurs, the server receives one precise point, its accuracy, a confidence score, and a random installation identifier. The point is used to query City of Minneapolis and National Weather Service sources and is not stored with the operations record. If you add a home, its precise point and the phone's remote notification token are encrypted so Curbito can match newly published events while the app is closed.

What Curbito stores

• Encrypted phone information and encrypted plates for vehicles you choose to save.
• One-way plate lookup tokens designed for future approved, plate-specific partner alerts; raw plates are not exposed in public dashboards.
• An encrypted saved-home point and remote notification token for active curb-event subscriptions.
• A one-way token for an optional private Home Assistant feed. The feed excludes plates, vehicle locations, exact home coordinates, and trip history.
• Parking-check outcome, accuracy band, confidence, and source-health counts without coordinates.
• Alert and curb-event delivery results and acknowledgements.
• Support reports and optional contact information.
• Signed synthetic partner events using one-way vehicle tokens.

Vehicle and driver access

A vehicle owner may create a seven-day, single-use invite for one saved vehicle. The invited driver must explicitly accept before receiving plate-specific urgent alerts. Curbito stores one-way device identifiers, the vehicle-access role, consent time, and revocation state. Drivers see a vehicle label and masked plate; owners do not receive the driver's trips or live location. Either person can end access.

Guided agency reports

Report drafts, exact addresses, notes and photos stay on your phone before you open an official agency route. If you separately opt in, Curbito records only the report category, time, official destination, resolved jurisdiction, routing confidence and an approximately one-kilometer area. Curbito initially labels that receipt “official route opened.” It does not claim submission, agency receipt or resolution.

Report status

For supported reports delivered through the City's public Open311 service, Curbito can retain the official request identifier and check the limited public status returned by that service. A private City work-order or partner status connection is installed but remains inactive until authorized. Curbito does not need internal case notes, the resident's report narrative or photos for that status loop.

Retention

Local parking-session and assessment data expires automatically after 24 hours. Unused driver invites expire after seven days. Server-side check and source-health records are removed after 30 days. Resolved support reports, alert-delivery records, curb-event delivery records and opt-in City-route handoffs are removed after 90 days. A pilot profile, active saved-home subscription, saved vehicles and accepted driver access remain until revoked, deleted, or the pilot closes.

Smart-home controls

Home Assistant access is optional. Its private URL works like a password, can be rotated or revoked from Curbito, and contains only verified home curb events. Alexa, Google Home, and Apple system integrations are not active in the pilot unless the app explicitly identifies them as connected. Sensitive vehicle announcements require a separate opt-in.

Your controls

You can pause automatic parking detection, change reminder frequency, withhold SMS or voice consent, rotate or revoke smart-home access, decline aggregate report-routing insight, submit a privacy request, or delete the local profile and linked pilot records from the app. You may also email hello@curbito.com.

Important limitation

Curbito is a courtesy warning service. Posted signs, meters, and official City instructions control. A missed or delayed alert does not make parking lawful.
